Enjoy a visit to the Alcazar de los Reyes Cristianos de Córdoba in a unique way. In an unbeatable environment, the Alcazar de los Reyes Cristianos enjoys great importance in the history of Spain, both for the different uses it has been given, and for who has resided in it.
At the time of its construction, the Alcazar of Córdoba was the habitual residence of the Roman governors and later of the Moorish caliphs, until in 1328 it became the home of the Spanish kings in their different trips to Córdoba. At its most important point, it became the residence of Fernando de Aragón and Isabel de Castilla, which is why it adopted the name of Alcazar de los Reyes Cristianos de Córdoba.
During the reconquest, the Christian Kings lived within its walls for more than eight years. At this time, they orchestrated the capture of Granada. It was also key in the decision to participate in the idea of Christopher Columbus to find a new route to reach the Indies.
Once the reconquest of Spain was finished, the Alcazar de los Reyes Cristianos was donated to the church of Córdoba, which made it the headquarters of the dreaded Inquisition. Subsequently, it was used as a prison, both civil and military. Currently, it is a Cultural Interest Property since 1931 and is part of the Historic Center of Córdoba, declared a World Heritage Site in 1994.
It is for all this, that making a visit to the Alcazar of the Christian Monarchs of Córdoba has become an unbeatable tourist attraction, just behind the Mosque of Cordoba and the Synagogue, receiving more than 500,000 visitors every year.
